Documentary Synopsis

I think that I could do best in this documentary assignment if I was to focus on roller skating.  Not because it is my favorite thing to do, but more because it is such a unique and interesting sport. When I first bring up roller skating into conversations with my peers, they almost always reply back with,

"So you do roller derby or do you like race or something?"

And of course I have to explain to them that I do similar stuff that ice skating does but also do things like ballroom dancing. I think a lot of people could learn about the sport I am involved in and would benefit by getting a wider view of what people are doing today. Sometimes people my laugh at first, but by the time they get to see what I do, they are really surprised.

Sometimes I have assumptions not about how I roller skate, but why? My dad always asks me if I want to keep doing it, but I never have a clear thought of why I really still want to. It's my goal that through this project I can understand myself and the reason that I continue to skate and be proud of what I do even though it might be odd to others.  I hope to get shots of technical aspects of skating, but also the fantastic dynamics and social presence that it creates. Being around other skaters makes me really realize that there is a sport for everyone. Not saying that there are not normal people involved with skating, but that anyone is welcomed. You can be not very good at all, but there is still an event for you.

Overall, people have a lot to learn about what I do and the way it impacts peoples lives. Figuring out and aksing people about there first assumptions should be very interesting. Hopefully I can gather some good information for this paper. :)
