Action Editorial Assignment

 Kickball
Spencer Swetnam
4/22/11

Playing the game of kickball is quite a fast and dramatic event. I would think that it is so much like softball, but in some ways it is not. For example, you cannot run off first base. You have to stay on the base, or otherwise risk getting out if the ball or a person with the ball tags you. I was in slippers on Wednesday so I really didn't get to play to my best ability. Closed toed shoes are definitely the best equipment you can have! I believe I made one home run though!  :D

The ball used in kickball is not hard, but soft enough that it will not hurt the players participating. We used a squishy ball such as you would use in dodge ball. You have a catcher and a pitcher just like in baseball or softball and you have three 4 bases including the home base. Normally, teams end up being at least 7 people or more. Kickball seems to be a sport where kids have the most fun. If our PE class was to choose to do baseball or kickball, I wouldn't be surprised how many people would choose Kickball.

If I could do one think in the game of kickball, I would pitch. I feel that even though I am left handed, I still have good aim and control. Unfortunately, I did not get to play pitcher because Johnny was in that spot the whole game. My least favorite position would have to be catcher. For some reason I feel most under pressure when I am the catcher. Everyone has to rely on the the catcher to catch the ball and it really makes me feel pressure. I am not particularly bad at catching, bust just get nervous doing it.

My favorite part of playing on Wednesday was being able to take action shots of all my friends and fellow classmates expressions. Coisha was out visiting her, and I definably got some of my best pictures from her. Sometimes it was a little hard to get the right lighting, but all I needed to do was lower my ISO a little, but still have a fast shutter speed. It was a cloudy day, and everything looked a little pale, but with some Photo-shop editing, that should be all fixed!

Kickball was always fun in Elementary school because no one was that good, so there was no pressure. :) I love to play soccer, so I am pretty good at kicking, (if I have cleats). Judith was probably the best kicker of the day. She got it the furthest and was able to make multiple home runs for our team! I hope we get to play kickball another time in  this class! It was so much fun. Everyone was cold out there, but we were all together in the same conditions, so it wasn't bad at all.

 Sample Photos from Game:

 "Bunt?"

 "WOAH!"

"Which way do I run?"

 "Yep, that's right!"

"Ah man, I missed!"

SUNSET Cell Phone Extra

I took this two photos going across the 205 bridge last night on my way home from a skating competition in Auburn, Washington. I thought it looked really nice and my phone didn't take too bad of pictures! :)
This photo makes the Columbia River look as though it is a canal or something similar. I like that the land it dark because it allows the eye to be drove the the middle of the sunset which it the nicest part of this picture.
I like this one because it reminds me of a vast ocean and a beach, but also it reminds me of california for some reason. Probably because there is sun. Haha

Action Mini-Assignment

I think this photo is quite awesome because the whole picture is quite blurry. Her hair definitely adds a motion/action effect to this picture. It wasn't very windy outside and I couldn't figure out Jonny's camera too well, so this is my best shot.
I chose to use the hall water fountain because it is a great way to show motion/action. Water is something that is always moving no matter where it is. This picture is kinda dark and that is the main thing I do not like about it.

Now this photo just really looks entertaining. It looks like a lot of fun and everyone is in the midst of action. Mareliza's hair is cool again while Renee has a good smile on her face. Hunter is just there. I like this photo because it shows off our school and gives a fun example of the students that are apart of it.

3 Night Photography Locations

Three places I want to shoot:

1. Downtown Portland- The city lights reflecting off the water.
2. Phoenix, Arizona- Light trails or downtown shots.
3. Morrison Bridge- shooting from this bridge to get shows of the city and the freeway close by.

10 Action Photographs

This is a photo that not too many people could relate with. This photo shows controlled strength, and because Nicole Leonard is so beautiful, she lights up this picture. You can definitely tell she is not just standing still but is rolling since she has skates on.
This photo is quite interesting. It reminds me of a rain drop in a huge size. The woman is wrapping here hand around this figure in a way that makes the image look whole and with a lot of life.
I really like this photo because it reminds us of the little things that we miss everyday  because we can not focus our eyes in this way. The bird looks innocent in its action, and definitely has a wide range of motion!!
This photo is strong and fierce and it shows the way of water! The motion is very dramatic in the fact that the water is going every which way!
This pig is really awesome because it shows a normal kid kind of thing, and turns it into something more. The picture scene is in the making and it is going to end badly once the motion has completed.
This photo is very cool, but very odd. The men look like they are quite powerful, but I cannot really tell what they are doing. I definitely think this is an action picture because they are extending their bodies in a way which looks like they are almost going to fight against each other or something.
Everyone knows who David Beckham is. He is truly in the middle of action and this photo really portrays what action shots are.
This is probably my favorite shot because it is using more then people, but animals. I think it is quite amazing when you can catch a photo like this and can make it so powerful looking!
I like this photo a lot because it really shows the true definition of action. He is in the air and fighting and they are both really athletic. The color of the photo goes well with their white uniforms.
This is one of my favorite movies! This is a different kind of action. They are doing stuff on skates that could definitely lead to action. lol.  The colors are nice because they reflect the times back in the 70's when skating was most popular. :)
