Thanksgiving Cell-Phone Assignment

"Family"

For part of my Thanksgiving Break, I am planning on going to the beach. We will be going to a local Outlet Mall there in Lincoln City, Oregon, and I will plan on taking a photo that shoes me and my grandma shopping together, or doing something that resembles "family". I would also like to get a picture of the beach/water if the weather happens to be okay. (And a sunset if I am lucky) If I could somehow relate these photos to family, then that would be great. If not, they will just be extras! :D
I definitely want to get a group picture of my grandma, my great grandma, and myself! Once I get home from from the beach, I will take a picture of our Thanksgiving dinner and gathering of our small family. On friday, I hope to get out and spend time with my dad. Whether it is shopping for Black Friday, or it is going and hanging out with some of his friends, I will get a "Dad and son picture" that resembles us as a family. Overall, my photos will be themed by my "Family" and will resemble the time I will spend with them this Thanksgiving break.

Studios

1. Modern Art Photograph

Well, I would definitely be interested in taking modern looking photography.  I love the look of modern photography and how it is portrayed. Lots of times, they use black and white as there background and something as building to be the main object. This Art studio sounds like it would fit me and the kinds of photos I am interested in taking. They also take modern wedding pictures. Example. They take a picture on the beach with a sunset in the background. The image is more romantic feeling than images were in earlier generations. Modern Art is open from 9am to 10pm everyday. There address is 924 N Killingsworth Ct. Portland, OR 97217. There phone number (503) 481-7947.

2. Dave's Studio

Dave's Studio is very involved in taking sports action photos. It would be awesome to get someone local like him to be able to go to Oaks Park for my roller skating regionals. We have photographers at Nationals, but any professional action takers here. Daves is located in Vancouver, Washington, a short distance away. If I could even go to Daves studio and see some of his material, it was be really cool! I did not exceed in finding the hours of his studio, but I did get his phone number. Its (360) 256-5122.

3. Studio 3

Studio 3 would probably be my favorite choice of the "three"! :D They are located in the heart of downtown, on 12th Avenue. They take the most variety of all the studios I chose. Including food, footwear, portrait, Etc. They actually have two locations. One in Portland and one in Seattle. There are 6 main photographers that work at Studio 3. I would definitely be interested in going downtown so I could see many of their photos. It would be cool to get some techniques to how they take their pictures. I actually just called them and asked for their hours since they weren't on the website. She lady said they stay open till 5pm and stay after for helping if needed.

Lighting Introduction

Color Temperature
Key Lighting
Hair Lighting
Fill Lighting
Back Lighting
Back Light:  Backlighting refers to the process of illuminating the subject from the back.
Fill Light:  a fill light  may be used to reduce the contrast of a scene and provide some illumination for the areas of the image that are in shadow.
Key Light: The purpose of the key light is to highlight the form and dimension of the subject.
Hair Light:Used to separate hair from background; 1 to 1.5 stops higher relative to key, so this eliminates reflectors as illumination.
Color Temperature: Color temperature is the characteristic of visible light that has important applications in photography lighting, etc. The temperature is conventionally stated in units of absolute temperature, K. Color temperature is related to Planck's law and to Wien's displacement law.

Bresson

1. What kind of Photography was Bresson best-known for? What subjects was he interested in?

Bresson was a unique photographer. He was most known for his documentary-style photography or old-style photography. Most of his picutres were not in color. If they were in color, he felt that it would take away from the individual inside the picture, and that that would might get distracted by the things around the photo. He was mostly interested in shooting people in the midst of their lives. He was always at the right place at the right time, getting the inside photo of a person who was not even posing.

2. What did you learn about Photography from watching this documenary? Be specific. Think about how he chose his subjects. What were his technical strengths as a photography. What made his pictures "special"?

I really learned that not every photograph has to have a huge significance. He used everyday scenes that most people wouldn't think of taking pictures of, and somehow put a look of meaning behind them. Whenever there was a big event, he was there to take the expressions of the people. His photos had feeling about them in the sence that the looks of some of the faces he took could have been fear, or just someones everyday look. Bresson was able to capture peoples in-between moments. He said that every picture he took made people wonder what would happen next.

3. Use three words to describe Bresson's photography. Only three. Be unique! Be vivid!

Characteristic. Intervening. Individual.

Photoshop "Tricks and Trips"

One of the things that this video focused on was transparency. A kid was dressed for Halloween and near him was a visible clown. To add more effect to the ghost, they increased the transparency, which made the ghost almost turn invisible. This allowed us to see the ghost as we really think of them.

We also learned how to create rain, snow, or even fire to a picture. The video showed a movie poster as an example.
First, you have to create a new layer and then add a blank gray background. Then, you go to filter bar and add a texture to the background so that it's completely spotted. After, click on monochromatic to give it a black and white texture. Next step is to go to filter, blur, and Gaussian blur to blend everything together. To do the rain or snow effect, you have to adjust your contrast. You need to go levels, and bring all three of the triangles close together. This will cause the background to go completely black with white speckles.  Then adjust the image, and click screen. This will cause the black background to fade away, just leaving the speckles in their position.

My 5 Favorite Places at PAA!

Library
Green Screen in Mac Lab
Art in Chapel
Bleachers in Gym

All of these places symbolize areas that I love to be in. They stand out in my mind as some of the best spots in the school. I tried to take the best pictures possible, and changed the contrast just enough so they would stick out. PAA has several nice features, but once they build the new school, there will be many more. My favorite photo take here would have to be the portrait of the art in the chapel. The purple tons to this photo definitely contrast with the black surroundings. This piece of art displays my favorite person in the whole wide world, Jesus Christ. :)

PS. THE FIRST PHOTO IS OF THE OUR BAND ROOM HERE AT PAA. SORRY, BUT I COULDN'T GET THE CAPTION TO WORK

Traveling into Nature

This photo is rich in its color and is very exuberant to the eye
This soft orange color reminds me of elegance and

The change in color during fall gives these leaves a light red that reminds me of Christmas
This flower shows the real beauty of a rose. With pink and yellow combined, the grace of this photo is outstanding

This photo is unique in how it is portrayed. The undeveloped roses in the back bring growth to the picture

My "Profile"

Before

After
In this photo, I did a number of things to edit it to the way I like it. First of all, to brighten it up, I used curves tool. This allowed my to even out the balance of the the light and dark colors. Second, I used the color balance option. I thought the picture did not bring out any colors in the photo, so I slid the red slider up to about 20% percent and the and green slider about 6%. This gave me just enough contrast to make the picture come alive. Third, I decided to change the green background to a lighter blue. To do this, I used the Hue/Saturation tool. I love how this tool can change the mood and setting of you picture with just a couple slides. :)
And last, to touch up my skin, I used the Dodge Tool. I felt that my color was a little to red from my acne and etc. The dodge tool lightened up my skin to make a brighter feeling. I believe I could have used a better editor for acne, but this was sufficient enough.

PHOTOSHOP BLOG

Photoshop happens to be one of the best and most creative photo editing soft wears in the world. It is designed to edit pictures to the amount that pleases the human eye. You can draw on the photo, take parts of the photo out, blur the photo, etc.

I love photoshop because it allows my to create more attractive picture to please others. I love editing on Photoshop Elements because it is a very easy way to edit fast. The photoshop toolbar, which is present on all Photoshop types, has a variety of choices. One of my favorite tools is the eyedropper. You can use to the eyedropper to take a color from anywhere and then use that color for something else, like lettering to creating blush on a persons cheeks. There is also the Clone Stamp. This feature allows you to take a area of your image and place that portion into another spot. This can help cover something that is sticking out or that is not appealing.

One of the most complex parts of photoshop is the layers pallet. Here, you can create a variety of layers to your image. Each time you edit the picture, you should be in a separate layer, that way you can view the layer or hide the layer to see the difference from the original piece of work. When you want to use text on your picture, you click the "T" on the toolbar, and at will create a text layer on the layers pallete. Text is often something that people will want to use. You can create inspirational quotes on them, or even put your signature.

PHOTOSHOP IS THE BEST! :)

The DSLR Parts

First of all, DSLR represents, Digital Single Lens Reflection. There are two main parts to a DSLR camera, the body, and the lens. Bodies contain different settings on the shooting dial that allow you to change the way the image will look. (We will talk more in detail at a later blog). The body contains a pop-up flash diffuser. Depending on the lighting in the space you are trying to capture, if the camera is on auto, the pop-up flash diffuser will flash on its on. If it is not on auto, there is a flash button that you will have to press in order for the flash to work.

There are many types of lenses. Wide angle lenses are used to get more of a perspective of whats around you. People can reefer to them a fisheye lens too because there is more of an oval look when printed. Sometimes I notice that wide angle lenses can make natural shapes of things be distorted. My dad uses a wide angle lens all the time and sometimes we create funny images wear my legs are really long and not normal. (It's fun!) A telephoto Zoom lens allows you to rotate the lens on the body without moving closer to the image. You still keep that the crisp clean look, while taking an easier photo.

In photography, exposure is the total amount of light allowed to fall on the photographic medium during the process of taking a photograph. In other words, the lens know not to bring in too much light, of else the picture will be over exposed. Too much light is not appalling to the eyes. The purpose of exposure adjustment is to control the amount of light from the subject that is allowed to fall on the lens so that it looks correct.
